Bringing life to a building, both interior and exterior, is one of the biggest challenges facing building contractors. Curved walls that blend into the landscape, bringing opulence to the outside, or a colonnade adorning an arch, these are all elements that transform the ordinary facade into something extraordinary. In order for this to be achieved, concrete shuttering needs to be applied.
There are several types of shuttering for concrete construction. Offered in different shapes and sizes, the choice is dependent on the different structural design elements of the building project being undertaken.
Holding It All Together
All pours need to be contained, to hold the concrete in place until it hardens sufficiently to hold its own shape. In all cases, shuttering needs to be sturdy and capable of handling the forces created by wet concrete, as well as the weight and force of any vibration equipment. In order for this to be successful, any joints in the formwork should be taped and sufficiently tight to avoid any matrix from leaking out during the setting process. More often than not, the panels must be sunk into the ground to prevent the viscous material from leaking out of the bottom of the formwork. The tops of any shuttering work should be set to provide an accurate edge to allow the tamper or beam screed to operate optimally.
Roadform Concrete Shuttering
Roadform, as a quick and simple form of concrete shuttering, is popular amongst professional contractors. It is both sturdy and tough, and it can withstand the rough and tumble of a busy construction site. It is relatively cheap in the long run, can be used multiple times, and requires little skill set to set up. Consisting of channel-shaped steel sections, usually 3 metres in length, it comes equipped with fastening brackets fixed to the back edge as well as a sliding tongue fitting that enables adjacent sections to be linked together. It is held in position by sturdy steel pins that are positioned within the staking bracket. Once aligned, it is locked in place by tightening the fastening wedge so that the steel pin holds the shuttering in place.

Once this has been set up according to the size, shape, and depth of the build, the liquid concrete can be poured into the mould.
